Last Saturday, I was asked to co-host a fundraiser for the Surrey Urban Youth Project at Rhizome Café in Vancouver. Soon after the show started, I came to realize that I was the host for as long as I could stay, and I can’t say I had a bad time.
45 minutes before Shyam was meant to pick me up to head to Rhizome, I figured that I best come up with something to perform, as well. For those of you who had been to a Tamanawis Coffee House in 2007 or 2008, this might be a bit of a recycled bit, done with a different “poem” each performance. But hey, it works (almost) every time, and I think I half hit the mark on this occasion.
This particular edition of ‘popular spoken word’ was SAVED by Rup of BPM and his beatboxing. Without me assuming there would be SOMEONE there who could beatbox, and more importantly without him being there, I think the whole bit would’ve fallen apart pretty quick.

While in Los Angeles, Kesha had the opportunity to sing background vocals for Paris Hilton’s single, “Nothing in This World,” which led to a later incident in which she vomited in Hilton’s closet.
