Last week, Jason Calacanis posted a clip from Gladiator that he says he watches every day before work for inspiration.
This is my equivalent. I came across it yesterday on my Entourage Season Six DVDs (this is from Chapter 3 of Episode 3) while procrastinating from other work and just generally not feeling the energy. Needless to say, I got up and got stuff done right after this scene.
At 19 years old, I’m at a totally different point in my life/career than Jason. I mean literally my entire memory of Gladiator was hearing the incredible sound design of the swords and coliseum(s?) from my bed at age 8, since the rest of family was watching the film after my bedtime. I haven’t gotten around to seeing it since. But I’m also just getting started, and I feel like one half (maybe even a little more) of my brain is Turtle in this clip, and the rest of my brain is Ari. I’m trying to get a little more of the latter.
A friend of mine just got back from LA, where he toured all the major studios. On the WB tour, while they were taking a look at famous film vehicles from Scooby Doo to The Matrix to Austin Powers, they got to see one of the real Tumblers from the Batman films, and the guide mentioned that Christopher Nolan was having it shipped to the UK in a couple of weeks “for Batman 3”.
My first reaction was “omg they’re already ready to start filming Batman!”, which, of course, is ridiculous. There’s so much involved in the prep of a film that huge that we would’ve heard if they were almost ready to roll film, especially so soon after Inception’s release.
But it is likely a part of the prep process, and means that while they may not exactly be shooting a Bruce Wayne car chase two weeks from now, Syncopy is marching steadily forward on their next project, and that Nolan isn’t taking much of a break before returning to Gotham City one last time. Glad to hear it.
This is a totally normal sight at SFU. It’s a pretty great place to go to school.
Lee Unkrich premiered the first clip from Toy Story 3 today. I’d really rather just let you enjoy it than ruin it with commentary so I’ll stop now. Have fun.
Toy Story 3 is out in 3D in cinemas and IMAX on June 18th 2010.

I had to cut this clip out of Leo Laporte’s latest episode of my personal favourite podcast, This Week in Tech and post it— couldn’t keep a straight face at the train station while listening to it this morning. Always an educational and entertaining show, though the latter is more prominently featured in the bit above. Add a +1 to the many voices of Leo Laporte.
Enjoy.
The trailer is finally up!!! Check it out on Apple.com here!
