Mashable’s Top 10 Most Watched Web Series this October
Although I didn’t know that POV counted as a series, I’m more than glad that CollegeHumor is dominating the charts this month, with 3 out of 10 series being chtv originals.
But seeing these numbers, I can’t help but wonder if any if it really matters. I mean really, have any of us even heard of most of these shows? They’re huge in their own niches, and the only people who really know all the shows are the people whose job it is to know all the shows.
Take the Smosh folks for example. As much as I can’t stand ‘em, props where props are due: the people put in the work, and, even if it comes out with the wit of a grade 10 school video project (hey, I’m not saying I didn’t do a few), they’ve kept on with it, and I can see how people could find it funny. Unlike Fred, who’s simply annoying, unwatchable, and just not funny.
But some people do. I bet there are those who can’t stand Jake and Amir, which is a show I love. I haven’t encountered such a person yet, but I’m sure thery’e out there.
We’re just not in a lowest common denominator environment anymore - not on the internet, at least. So until there are top 10s for every type and genre (at which point the numbers are significantly less impressive), these are really just remnants of a bygone era.
Or I’m an idiot. Either one is perfectly plausible.
