In Regards to the Beard in Islam by Habib Ali Al Jifri [english subtitles]
I’ve heard a lot about Habib Ali, but had never seen a video of him before this. MashaAllah, I wish everyone thought and spoke with logic like this, as this is the kind of explanation I was hoping for.
I don’t have a beard but was wondering if I had missed a memo and might not be fulfilling some paramount Islamic duty by doing so, but this make sense. It’s not obligatory, it’s Sunnah (meaning, basically that it’s a tradition of the Prophet Muhammad [peace be upon him] that should ideally be followed in order to be more like him).
It’s funny to me because people saying I HAVE to have a beard and am somehow sinning for not makes me want to stay clean-shaven. Knowing that it’s a Sunnah has made me make intention to actually grow a beard one day :) I have a hard time doing things out of fear, it’s much easier doing things out of love. Not that I’m not “God-fearing”, but I’m parent-fearing too and I’d rather do things that make them proud rather than do things because I might expect them to yell at me.
Positivity works, people.
